Order on the Internet and Pick up at Local Store

The larger retailers are finding that their online shoppers sometimes would prefer to pick up an online-ordered item at the local "brick and mortar" store - rather than having it shipped.  This works as a more economical way to purchase items which are too large for UPS or Federal Express, and ends up saving the customer by having the retailer ship it to the local store - and the consumer just has to drive over to the store to "pick it up"

Sears has been offering a site to store mode of shopping for several years, and recently Wal-Mart has started such a service.  Site to Store (Website to Store) programs offer free shipping for online orders as long as customers are willing to pick up the item at their local retail store.

For Walmart, the site to store service is being offered in more than 750 stores in Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Nebraska and New Mexico, along with select areas in California, Colorado, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas. Wal-Mart said it will “activate” additional stores throughout the United States over the next several months and complete a national rollout to more than 3,300 stores by late summer - 2007.

Sears offers customers the ability to purchase a variety of items online, which can then be picked up at their local store within a guaranteed five-minute period.  From what I have read on the internet - if the wait time exceeds five minutes, Sears customers receive a $5 coupon.
